Well a word of introduction is in order I believe.
This is my first post and my first blog ever, and to tell you the truth I never imagined that I would ever write it. I read a couple of blogs, mostly to do with history, religion and sports but I have never thought about writing it, primarily because I didn't have anything interesting to share.
So what has changed?
Well, I just today ordered a Monastic Diurnal. So what is it?
So, a diurnal is a kind of breviary, and monastic diurnal is a diurnal monks use for praying...Simple.
Right, so whats a breviary?
So, a breviary is a prayer book, used primarily by priests and religious to pray during certain hours in a day. Now there are traditionally seven hours in a day to pray, one of those hours is called Matins and its prayed during the night, after midnight. Incidentally it is the longest hour. Now an hour doesn't mean an hour in real time, because id doesn't make sense, how could it be the longest hour. By hour they just means a certain time when to pray and also the exact prayers, so Matins is one hour, Laudes another and they differ from one another: changes are in rubrics of prayer, the psalms used, texts and so on. Now the difference between diurnal and normal breviary is that diurnal doesn't have Matins included, thus making it a lot "thinner" and manageable.
Well enough for this post about that.
So I ordered this Benedictine Diurnal today and it should be arriving in a couple of days.
Now, my intention with this blog is to comment on it when it arrives and just my overall experience with it, Also, being in Latin (diurnal) I basically wowed myself to try and learn it, because right now I don't know it. This is one of the main reasons I purchased it in the first place. So praying and learning Latin!
So in this blog I will try to do all that.
I said that before I didn't have anything interesting to share to start a blog. S that has changed, but it changed in a way that I got something to say only, not that it is interesting!
I hope I will manage to keep at it...One more thing: I just ordered it today, who knows will it arrive. This might just be the first and also the last post!
God bless!
